Churchified - Racism

Racism is not about people, it is about act and attitudes of people. The corruption of racism must be healed, the institutional structures must be dismantled, but the people who apply racism must be seen as flawed human beings, as flawed as their victims. For as a Christian I believe that all have sinned and fallen short of the grace of God. None can claim perfection, holiness, and honour.

Humanity is made up of Men and Women, Black, White, Brown, and Yellow or mixed races of every shade pigmented or albino in the world that is not perfect.

John 8:7 And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”

The abusers around the world feel pain when abused. The victim of today may have been an aggressor or predator towards another. In every situation, the truth will stand that none can claim perfection in this world nor can he/she be defined as the holy victim. The world is not being called to stand for the victim but for justice and truth. To me, God’s justice is defending the weak, marginalized, and the poor, (the widow and the orphan), the alien, and the stranger in our mists who looks different or speaks differently. These require defense from the setup of the institutional system around the world against them. From Bible scripture, as my basis for living, I see that the justice in the bible is about how institutions relate to ordinary people, not the cooperative holiness between people.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe (judgment is coming) to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

Romans 10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.

Leviticus 19:34 “When a stranger resides with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who resides with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

Exodus 22:22-24 Ye shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child. If thou afflict them at all, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; and my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

Psalms 146:9 The LORD protects the strangers; He supports the fatherless and the widow, ... he supports both widows and orphans but makes the path of the wicked slippery.

Zachariah 7:9-10 Thus hath Jehovah of hosts spoken, saying, Execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother; and oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the sojourner, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.

Romans 14:19 So then let us follow after things which make for peace, and things whereby we may edify one another.

The story of racism in the world is a narrative of a history of manipulation of scripture and the need to address this in the body of Christ. I love Jesus and am saddened when God's people brush over the pain of another in the name of unity by silence. The call of forgiveness by black Christians without a call of change of attitude and actions into true Christlikeness in all members. The church as an institution of worship enabled racism, facilitated colonization, and ensured de-ethnification by labeling all none western traditions as evil or outrightly satanic. The silence against racism hurts, no-one claims that being black must be better than being white or yellow or what other race definition, its acceptable faith that shows love and speaks for the weak but one looks unto Jesus the author and finisher of my faith and the ultimate defender of the hurting. I thank God for one friend who will stand against those who believe in Christ but live as social racists, that will have black visit their homes in prayer but will not accept them in private functions and feel that “good” believers will pray, submit and not make a fuss. I believe they will go to heaven for they accept Jesus as Lord, but they will be terrible letters on earth of the gospel

John 8:7 And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”
